Gilbert Curetti isn't done competing yet! This veteran of foosball trains tirelessly to take on his younger opponents and show them that at 83, you can still surprise your peers and hold your own against even the best. And it's at the 2017 Bonzini World Series that he will demonstrate his talents to the younger generation.
Gilbert Curetti, aka The Indestructible
Gilbert Curetti is not your average veteran player. In 2000, the man now nicknamed "The Indestructible" was crowned the oldest high-level player in the world. At 83, the Cagnes native doesn't shy away from hard work and doesn't hesitate to train more than two hours a day on his Bonzini table football and goes to the Nice club twice a week. The octogenarian is proud to remain competitive despite his age and emphasizes the importance of his intensive training: "It's essential when you play a sport that requires so much endurance, skill, and precision."
A beautiful finale!
For Gilbert Curetti, his next competition will also be his last. And what better way to cap off his achievements than a world championship? While the Indestructible is well aware of the level of his young competitors, he declares above all that he participates "for pleasure, and to see the table football players from around the world with whom [he has] been able to create bonds." But as a good competitor, he intends to give the best of himself. "Why not be in the top ten?" he declares thoughtfully. That would be well-deserved after such a long career!
