It's been delivered: the foosball table sent to Haiti by KC Ariston, the leading team in the Luxembourg championship, has arrived safely. In the small village of Café-Lompré, the brand-new table has created a real buzz...
A long wait...
Sent by boat, the table football was financed by the Patrimonio bar in Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg) and shipped by KC Ariston to the village of Café-Lompré It took weeks to reach its destination. It was received on site by the club's partners last December. Since assembling a game table is no easy task, club president Maxime Nunes, who is developing an electrical network with his company Creos, took advantage of his visit to Haiti to assemble the furniture himself. And according to him, the trip was well worth it!
... which was worth it!
The reaction of the residents of Café-Lompré was unbelievable. Maxime Nunes (on the right in the photo, alongside his friend and owner of the Patrimonio bar, Roberto Da Costa) describes a scene of total euphoria:
The happiness, you should have seen! For the first match, the Haitians arrived in single file, as if for an official soccer final! The kids were turning the handles, laughing while kicking the ball, and everyone was watching the match. I've never seen such a reaction. It's as if fire had just been invented.
In this village where children have no games except hoops and sticks, table football was received with honors. Although the Haitians had never played table football, that didn't stop them from quickly learning all the rules and making spectacular progress. It's a safe bet that when the Luxembourg aid workers return, the residents of Café-Lompré will have greatly improved their playing techniques!
