Foosball-playing robots?
Part of our daily lives, robots are present not only to serve humans but also to challenge them in various games. The best competitors in Go and chess, robots are also taking up foosball. Designed and developed by EPFL Lausanne students, this foosball-playing robot is capable of competing against a human. Thanks to a table equipped with various systems, motors, and image sensors, the robot can easily win a match. Guided and controlled by a computer, every move of the foosball players is calculated and directed by the computer with the aim of stopping the ball and scoring it.
Artificial players competing
Proud of their invention, the students want to go further. By improving the foosball table's manipulation techniques, it is possible to see two intelligent robots playing on the same table. According to these student researchers, the implementation of a laser system has made the game even more exciting. This way, the first players can block every move of their opponents and vice versa to quickly win the match. When will "artificial intelligence" be an option for our foosball tables? What a pleasure it would be to be able to play alone, against your Petiot foosball table...
