If you're planning to take part in a table football competition in Germany, don't forget your fins and oxygen tank. You might find yourself in an underwater table football competition...
This new discipline has completely won over players east of the Rhine. As a reminder, the very first underwater table football competition took place in June 2008.
During this unique sporting event, many seasoned divers and incidentally pro table football players took turns for nearly 26 hours to tease the ball, thus establishing the foundations of the underwater table football tournament.
As improbable as it may seem, this unusual record was broken on September 16th, during a competition organized by Pascal Adam. This time, 134 players in diving gear competed for more than 30 hours, in 30-minute matches.
Do you need a special table football for this kind of match? Oh yes! For the second event, a rather special table football was used, originally designed for the "Documenta" art exhibition, by the company Goaliath Kicker (of which Mr. Adam is the co-founder), which specializes in the manufacture of unusual table football. It's true that it's hard to imagine an ordinary wooden table football at the bottom of a pool...
And the ball? Steel, so it doesn't float.
Do you need a pool? Not necessarily. For the second underwater tournament, a simple truck was requisitioned. Glass windows were installed to allow spectators to admire the table football players performing their nautical feats.
For Pascal Adam, it's obvious: underwater table football has a future. He's planning to take the plunge again next year... And why not play an underwater match on a outdoor foosball table Petiot? It's designed to be water-resistant, after all...
