Here we are: the world championship of table football will begin tomorrow at the Kindarena in Rouen. Nearly 500 players will compete from Thursday to Sunday in several categories to reach the final and try to win the prestigious title of world champion. Many different profiles are expected, including veteran players—masters—who will come to impart their wisdom to the younger generation.
Foosball World Championship: A Competition Open to All
"We'll be playing against a dentist, a teacher, an unemployed person, a student, a mother (...) around a foosball table, all the rules are broken," explains Sébastien Lebourg, organizer of the Foosball World Championship in Rouen and president of the city's foosball club.
It's true that foosball remains a discipline open to the greatest number of people. A friendly sport (but a sport above all) where all generations have a chance.
In Rouen, the fifteen veterans still very active in the city's cafes intend to take advantage of the event to rekindle childhood memories and share their experience with younger people.
Among them, Guilbert Curetti - 84 years old - the oldest foosball player who will compete in their world championship. A true living encyclopedia of table football, this passionate player won his first national title in 1953. And thanks to his table football training table, specially equipped for practicing alone at home, the player nicknamed "The Indestructible" intends to demonstrate his skill and endurance once again. And perhaps also teach a lesson or two to the young players in the competition...
