For the past two months, the table football offered by the Association Familiale du Sénonais has been installed in the entrance hall of the Résidence de l'Etoile de Sens, and it hasn't had a break! Residents seem to have found a healthy and friendly activity there, which now punctuates their afternoons. Doctors and nurses also welcome this group activity, which requires motor coordination and concentration.
"Papy-foot" or foosball for nostalgics...
The 53 residents of the Résidence de l'Etoile, including 15 with disabilities, now don't go a day without organizing one or two friendly tournaments. Many of them have experienced the atmosphere of the pubs and have played their first balls on café foosball tables. Proud of their table football, these old-school players renamed the room that houses it "Papy-foot" in its honor. Lucien, 73, explains:
It's rare to be able to get together spontaneously, together, to do something. It's a pretty good idea. There are those who play and those who watch. Everyone enjoys it, even those who have never played it before.
Table football, fun and therapeutic
There's no better therapy than play! The medical staff at the Sens Hospital Center nursing home understand this and are delighted with the acquisition of this table football. Nurse Carine Martin reveals:
Ever since its arrival was announced, the table football has been eagerly awaited, acknowledges Carine Martin, the nursing home's coordinator. Beyond the fun aspect, the approach is also important on a physical level because it helps develop coordination and concentration.
The nurse also points out that everyone has enough autonomy and the appropriate physical condition to participate in group activities. Hence the logic of the method.
