Will amateur and professional players soon be competing in a mixed-gender table football game? The idea is taking shape thanks to the initiative of soccer player Nicole Abar. And the Women's World Cup, which France is set to host in 2019, would serve as the springboard for this unusual event. The goal: to install 10 mixed-gender table football games in the World Cup host cities to attract and galvanize crowds...
Table football, a unifying sport par excellence
Cohesion, sharing, conviviality... these are just some of the values conveyed by table football! The ultimate unifying and mixed sport, table football will soon allow mini-football enthusiasts to compete in friendly competitions across France. For the highly anticipated 2019 Women's World Cup, 10 mixed foosball tables will be made available to players in the cities hosting the event. The idea will be to form teams of 11—11 girls and 11 boys—to then have them compete in 2-on-2 matches.
"There's something to show the world. Anywhere, anytime, with foosball, everyone can take part in a sporting event," explains Nicole Abar.
Is foosball ahead of its time?
A clever communication tool
When a football competition needs a little PR boost, it can always count on the help of its miniature counterpart. A true weapon of mass appeal, the table football will have the difficult task of encouraging as many people as possible to fill stadiums by 2019. A professional football match and a free game of foosball in the same day, how can you say no?
