Among the table football techniques that every player should know, the most important is undoubtedly... passing! Yes, it may seem obvious, but the art of passing is absolutely essential. Passing the ball from one crossbar to another (from midfielders to forwards, for example) or to a teammate during doubles games is the basis of any strategy. Playing full attack won't be enough if you don't master passing! The ball won't even reach the forwards anyway...
Your ball is up front, what should you do? Shoot? Not yet!
When the ball is at the three-post, and you're sure you're about to score, hold your shot! Instead, pass it between your attackers (on the same post, that is) by tapping it into the players' flanks. With practice, your wrist and speed will improve to the point where you'll be able to outwit your opponent and surprise them. And then, you can be sure that the ball will go into the goal every time (or almost every time). The lateral pass is the pass in table football that you MUST know.
Is your ball having trouble reaching the attackers? We'll have to fake it!
You might say, "That's all well and good, but how do you get the ball to the attackers?" There are two ways to work the ball to break through the opposing defense. One is the swipe pass (the easiest), and the other is the tic-tac pass (much more technical). In a swipe pass, the midfielders lean forward or backward and only lightly touch the ball to slide it between them. The pass is made to the same crossbar several times in a row, in one direction, then the other. As soon as one of the midfielders breaks away, it's the right time to attempt a pass to the attackers.
And now for the tic-tac pass. It's a very technical pass, certainly, but when you learn the table football technique, you have to face the difficulties... even if it means spending hours failing! The tic-tac pass isn't so different from the brushed pass in the sense that it's still a matter of passing the ball from one player to another on the same bar until a space is free to rush into. The small detail that changes everything is that the players have to stay straight. Ouch! And as if that weren't enough, the execution speed is higher. And yes, because the principle is to confuse the opponent by making him take his eyes off the ball. As soon as you feel him destabilized, as soon as the ball is in the ideal position, it's time to shoot. Now you understand why this table football technique is used by professional players in competition.
Remember: passing is the key to table football. All you have to do is practice to become a pro! And if you're going to spend hours improving your game, it might as well be on a Bonzini table football!
